Every morning it’s the same routine: wake up, brush teeth, check phone, scream about Trump. Scroll. Scream. Retweet. Scream with better grammar. It’s like Peloton for outrage — “Feel the burn! That’s democracy leaving your body!”

And this isn’t about policy. You can argue tax rates all day. This is about manufactured outrage. It’s like they’re binge‑watching a reality show called The Orange Menace while their own cities descend into crime- and poop-filled hell-holes.

And here’s the part nobody wants to hear — understanding why this happens actually matters. I know, gross. Accountability. Boo. Hiss.

Because a healthy country needs critics on every side. Real critics. Not Yelp reviewers for democracy. You can’t just give the other team one star and write, “Food was orange. Would not recommend.”

Instead, the Left has built an industrial complex of outrage. There are podcasts, newsletters, tote bags — “I Survived Today’s Trump Headline.” It’s less civic engagement, more CrossFit for cortisol.

So figuring out the forces behind the obsession matters. Not because it helps Trump. Not because it helps Republicans. Because it helps adults. And adults are in short supply right now.

THE DIAGNOSIS: “Why the Left Can’t Look Away”

The picture above diagnoses why so many on the left fixate on Trump while ignoring a cascade of Democratic failures: the catastrophic Afghanistan withdrawal, the war on American energy independence, the open borders debacle, the fascination with freeing serial criminals, the economic destruction of blue zones, etc.

Six forces work together inside the mind: tribal identity, institutional capture of media and academia, algorithmic bubbles, the social reward of looking morally superior, outrage addiction, and the need to protect professional status. The coverage data shows the asymmetry isn’t imagined — it’s measurable. The key insight: a lot of anti-Trump obsessives are not mentally ill. They’re responding rationally to a system that rewards one-sided vigilance and punishes honest self-reflection.

THE CURE: “A Prescription for the Honest Liberal”

This picture offers an honest path forward for liberals who want to break free from tribal reflex without abandoning their actual values. Seven concrete steps — from naming Democratic failures to reading primary sources to following respected conservatives — build the habits of real citizenship. The scenario watchlist gives readers a way to predict what’s next: either the left reforms its institutions and recovers credibility, or the obsession deepens and drives more Americans away. The real, measurable indicators to watch are media coverage parity, restored campus debate, and the return of inter-party friendship as a social norm.

“Trump Derangement Syndrome” isn’t even about Trump anymore. He’s just the mascot. It’s about a political culture where you get rewarded for screaming in one direction and penalized for looking in the mirror.

One‑sided outrage? Standing ovation.
Honest self‑examination? Security escorts you out.

The left used to brag about questioning power, challenging institutions, defending free thought. And getting back to those values doesn’t mean you wake up a Republican. Relax. Nobody’s mailing you a red hat. It just means you act like a citizen again — same standards for every politician, every party, every headline.

Historical Backdrop

On July 20, 1969, at 4:17 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, a spidery four-legged spacecraft named Eagle touched down on a dusty plain called the Sea of Tranquility. Aboard were Neil Armstrong, 38, a quiet civilian test pilot from Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Air Force Colonel Buzz Aldrin. Orbiting above in the command module Columbia was Michael Collins. The Apollo 11 mission was the culmination of a decade of American effort after President Kennedy promised in 1961 to land a man on the Moon before the decade was out. Armstrong was chosen as mission commander because of his calm under pressure — he had once ejected from the Lunar Landing Research Vehicle less than a second before it crashed, then simply filed his report and returned to his desk. He was married to Janet, with two young sons, Rick and Mark. An engineer at heart, he spoke little, slept lightly, and carried the weight of 600 million television viewers without complaint.

July 20, 1969 — 7:02 a.m. EDT — Command Module Columbia, Lunar Orbit

You wake up in a tin can 60 miles above the Moon, and your boots are waiting. You hear the soft hum of cabin fans and see the cold blue glow of instrument panels. Mike Collins passes you a pouch of reconstituted peaches and a squeeze tube of coffee. Through the small triangular window, the lunar surface slides below — gray, cratered, silent. Buzz is already reviewing the descent checklist. You chew slowly, say little, and feel the weightlessness tug at your stomach. The radio crackles with Houston’s morning greeting. You answer in a flat, even voice.

July 20, 1969 — 9:27 a.m. EDT — Lunar Module Eagle, Docked to Columbia

You squeeze through the tunnel into Eagle, boots first, and the air is colder here, smelling faintly of machine oil and new plastic. Buzz follows. You both begin powering up systems, flipping 100 switches in a choreographed sequence you’ve rehearsed for months. The LM is smaller than a compact car inside. You stand at your station — there are no seats — and strap your feet to the floor. Collins, still in Columbia, jokes through the intercom. You smile briefly but stay focused on the gauges.

July 20, 1969 — 1:46 p.m. EDT — Lunar Module Eagle, Undocking

A sharp clunk echoes through the hull as Eagle separates from Columbia. You watch the command module drift away through the window, Collins waving from inside. “You cats take it easy on the lunar surface,” he says. You reply, “See you later.” Your heart rate climbs slightly — the biomed sensors tell Houston — but your voice stays even. Buzz sets up the Hasselblad. Sunlight knifes through the window, bleaching one side of your face white while the other stays in shadow.

On the evening of September 7, 1881, the James-Younger remnants — led by Jesse and Frank James and joined by Wood Hite, Dick Liddil, Clell Miller’s brother Ed, and Charlie Ford — stopped Chicago & Alton Train No. 8 at a deep railroad cut called Blue Cut, about two miles east of Glendale, Missouri. It would prove to be Jesse James’s final robbery; he would be shot in the back of the head by Robert Ford in St. Joseph less than seven months later. Our subject is William “Choppy” Foote, the veteran locomotive engineer at the throttle that night. Foote was a weathered Missouri railroader in his forties, a family man known on the line for his steady hand and his chew of tobacco. After the holdup, Jesse walked up to him, shook his hand, and pressed two silver dollars into it — “to drink to the health of Jesse James in the morning.” Foote never forgot it.

You wake before the rooster to the smell of lard frying and cold stove-iron. Your wife hands you coffee boiled black and a biscuit soaked in bacon grease. Your youngest coughs in the next room — the croup again. You pull on wool socks darned three times, lace your work boots, and kiss your wife’s forehead. Outside, the river fog smells of sewage and coal. You walk six blocks to the Chicago & Alton roundhouse, the dew soaking your trouser cuffs.

You sign the run sheet with a nubby pencil and greet your fireman, a thick-shouldered young Irishman. Together you oil the Rogers 4-4-0 locomotive, engine No. 11, crawling under her warm belly with a long-spout can. Coal dust cakes inside your nose. The shop boss hollers about a late order of axle grease. You test the whistle — it shrieks and a flock of pigeons bursts from the rafters into the smoke-blackened morning light.

Passengers crowd the wooden platform — drummers with carpetbags, a Mennonite family, two well-dressed bankers from St. Louis, a Black porter loading trunks with quick efficiency. You lean out the cab window and wave to the conductor. A woman holds a crying baby in a knit shawl. The bell rings, the whistle blows twice, and you ease the throttle back. Steam curls along the platform boards, ghost-white in the sun.

In the summer of 1876, the United States sent the 7th U.S. Cavalry Regiment under Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer to push the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho peoples onto reservations. The tribes, led by figures like Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse, had gathered in an enormous village along a river they called the Greasy Grass, which white men called the Little Bighorn. Our subject is Private Thomas “Tom” Meador, a 24-year-old trooper in Captain Thomas French’s Company M, assigned to Major Marcus Reno’s battalion. Tom is Irish-American, from a Brooklyn tenement, who enlisted eighteen months ago for the $13-a-month pay and a pair of boots.

June 25, 1876 — 2:30 AM — Crow’s Nest Ridge Camp, Montana Territory

You wake in darkness to a corporal kicking your boot. The air is cold enough to see your breath. You chew a piece of hardtack soaked in bacon grease because there is no time for coffee fires — Custer forbids smoke. Your mouth tastes like copper. Men piss beside their horses without bothering to step away. Around you, 600 troopers pack saddles in near-silence, the only sounds being creaking leather, coughing, and the soft blow of horses. Your mare, Nellie, nips your sleeve. You check your carbine’s breech by feel.

June 25, 1876 — 8:00 AM — The Divide Between the Rosebud and Little Bighorn Valleys

You sit your horse in a column of twos as the sun climbs. The heat is already brutal — sweat streams down your spine under wool. Captain French rides down the line telling men to check cartridges. You count yours: 50 carbine rounds, 24 pistol rounds. Your canteen sloshes half-full with warm, bitter water. A Crow scout named White Man Runs Him gallops past toward Custer’s position, his face tight. You do not speak his language, but you know that face. Something is wrong.

June 25, 1876 — 12:07 PM — Custer’s Column Halts Near the Crow’s Nest

You dismount and slacken your horse’s girth. Officers gather on a rise, pointing with gauntlets. Word trickles back down the line — a huge pony herd has been spotted in the valley, and a box containing hardtack was found with a Sioux boy rifling through it. Surprise is lost. The column will attack today, not tomorrow. You pass a piece of plug tobacco to Private O’Hara beside you. He spits and mutters, “God save us, Tom, there’s thousands of ‘em down there.” You pretend not to hear him.

June 25, 1876 — 12:15 PM — Battalions Divide

So… we keep hearing different things about Iran, the Strait, etc. The following attempts to offer a well-researched digest.

During the past week, Iran attacked UAE oil sites at Fujairah. U.S. and Iranian forces clashed at sea. And late on May 7, explosions were reported near Iranian ports — though nobody can confirm what happened. Nothing hit the Iranian mainland for sure, but obviously everyone is on edge.

Kinetic Action Meets Subtle Diplomacy

The U.S. and Iran were shooting and talking at the same time. Iran launched drones and missiles at the UAE. The U.S. Navy destroyed Iranian fast boats and stopped a tanker.

But Iran also handed over a 14-point peace plan through Pakistan. President Trump paused the naval escort mission and said talks were going “very good.” Officials called the attacks “below threshold” — meaning not bad enough to kill the ceasefire. In plain English: both sides are tired and are testing how far they can push.

What might be next?

Bullish scenario (de-escalation holds): watch for a formal framework announcement, the reopening of Hormuz shipping under new rules, and Iran pausing attacks on UAE targets. If Trump keeps Project Freedom on hold and sanctions talks advance, the deal is real.
Bearish scenario (more conflict): watch for a strike confirmed on Iranian soil, a U.S. Navy ship actually hit (not just claimed), or Israel re-entering the picture. If oil prices spike above pre-ceasefire levels or the UAE formally requests U.S. retaliation, the truce is dead.
Wildcard: the May 7 Qeshm/Bandar Abbas explosions. If independent reporting confirms a U.S. strike on Iranian soil, everything changes overnight. For now, the signal is simple: a lot of smoke, a little fire, and a very narrow path to peace. Keep your eyes on the Strait.

The LZ 129 Hindenburg was the largest aircraft ever to fly — longer than three Boeing 747s parked end to end, and lifted by seven million cubic feet of flammable hydrogen. On May 3, 1937, it left Frankfurt, Germany, on its first North American trip of the season, bound for the U.S. Naval Air Station at Lakehurst, New Jersey. Our subject is Werner Franz, age 14, the youngest crew member — a cabin boy from Frankfurt who had taken the job to help support his family after his father lost work. Werner polished silver, served coffee, and ran messages between officers.

May 6, 1937 — 6:42 AM — Crew Quarters, B-Deck, LZ 129 Hindenburg, approx. 400 miles east of Newfoundland, 650 ft altitude

You wake up in a narrow crew bunk above the Atlantic to the soft, steady hum of the four Daimler-Benz diesel engines. The cabin smells of lubricating oil, stale tobacco, and sweat from six men sleeping in a room meant for four. You dress quickly in the half-light — cold water from the tiny basin stings your face awake. A bell rings twice down the corridor. Breakfast service begins in eighteen minutes. You tie your bow tie by feel, the way Chief Steward Kubis taught you.

May 6, 1937 — 7:20 AM — Officers’ Mess, B-Deck

You carry a silver coffee pot between white-linen tables, careful not to spill as the ship gently banks. Captain Pruss nods at you without smiling. The officers speak in clipped German about a headwind that is costing them hours. You refill cups, then retreat to the pantry to polish the next round of silverware with a chamois cloth. Your hands smell of metal polish and coffee grounds. Someone is smoking a cigarette in the designated smoking room down the corridor — the only open flame allowed aboard seven million cubic feet of hydrogen.

May 6, 1937 — 10:15 AM — Port Promenade Deck, A-Deck

You are sent up to A-deck to collect empty ashtrays from the promenade. The slanted windows are cranked open and the cold Atlantic wind hits your face. Far below, you see three fishing schooners trailing wakes like tiny pencil marks. A woman in a fur collar points her camera at the sea. A boy not much younger than you presses his nose against the angled glass. You think of your older brother Günter, who also works the ships, and wonder where he is right now.

May 6, 1937 — 1:10 PM — Main Dining Room, A-Deck

Thanks to a combination of DOGE and investigative reporter Luke Rosiak, we now have a sense of the scale of Medicaid fraud perpetrated by immigrant communities in Ohio.

Rosiak says, “I’ve been investigating federal waste and fraud for 20 years. This is the biggest scandal I’ve ever found.”

My summer intern Biff Spackle (yes, he’s back from paternity leave), offers the following infographics to help introduce the new game called Grand Theft Medicaid.

Biff’s footers still need work, but he’s getting there

A titanic Medicaid scandal has been uncovered in Columbus, OH. The state spent $1 billion on home health care in 2024, but much of that money went to people getting paid to hang out with their own family members. Thousands of shell companies — many crammed into single office buildings with no workers — bill the government for “homemaking,” “chores,” and “companionship & conversation.” Luke’s two-month investigation found politicians, ex-cons, and former janitors (but I repeat myself) getting rich in months by setting up these LLCs. The system has no oversight because the “services” happen inside private homes. One building alone billed $66 million. Good work if you can get it. Records show duplicate names, fake birthdays, and firms that have full client lists in their very first month. It’s bullsh**.

Biff WTF is that Substack Footer?

These ripoffs aren’t just an Ohio problem — it’s a national one. Federal taxpayers in every state pay at least half of every state’s Medicaid bill (Thanks, Obamacare!), so waste in Columbus shows up in your tax bill in TX, FL, and CA. Unlike food stamps, Medicaid has no spending cap. The fraud’s easy to find: a single doctor can sign forms and open the spending floodgates.

Non-Discretionary?

For years, politicians said health care spending couldn’t be cut because it was “non-discretionary.” That’s wrong. Billions of dollars are being wasted on fake services while the country drifts toward bankruptcy. A new Trump task force is now investigating, but the damage to the deficit — and to truly needy patients who depend on the program — has been done.

Protip: this is just Part One of Rosiak’s “Medicaid Millionaires” series. He plans to name names — politicians, landlords, fraudsters, and shell-company operators all making millions on our backs.

The takeaway is simple: the “untouchable” parts of the federal budget are not untouchable at all. They are where the biggest waste is hiding. Which is why they hated DOGE.

A federal task force led by FTC Chairman Andrew (I call him Andy) Ferguson and VP JD Vance is now turning its eyes toward this unconscionable ripoff. The faster these miscreants are held to account - and the laws changed - the better.

Historical Backdrop

On September 7, 1940 — a date forever known as “Black Saturday” — the German Luftwaffe shifted strategy and launched the first massive daylight bombing raid on London, beginning what became the Blitz. Nearly 1,000 aircraft attacked the docks and East End in waves, killing 436 civilians and wounding 1,600 on that first day alone. Prime Minister Winston Churchill, only four months into office, was at his country residence Chequers when the raid began. He raced back to inspect the damage, walking among the burning ruins of working-class neighborhoods. Our subject is Detective Inspector Walter Henry Thompson of Scotland Yard’s Special Branch — Churchill’s personal bodyguard since 1921. Thompson, a tall and watchful former officer, was the silent shadow who saw everything. Through his eyes we observe the most dangerous day in modern English history.

September 7, 1940 — 7:42 AM — Chequers, Buckinghamshire, England

You wake up at your post outside the Cabinet Room, your revolver heavy under your jacket. You stand outside the breakfast room door, hands clasped behind your back, ears tuned to every footfall on the wooden floor. The Prime Minister is already up, robe half-tied, scattering papers across the table while he reads dispatches between bites of cold beef and mustard. A maid brings tea with too little sugar — rationing now. You smell pipe smoke, beeswax polish, and cut roses from the garden. Outside the leaded windows, doves coo. You note the time on your pocket watch, then check the safety on your revolver beneath your coat.

September 7, 1940 — 9:17 AM — A413 Road through the Chiltern Hills

You sit in the front passenger seat of the black Humber Pullman, swaying with the curves while the PM dictates a memo behind you. The driver, Bullock, takes the corners hard. You scan every hedgerow, every farm gate, every approaching vehicle. The smell of leather upholstery mixes with cigar smoke that the PM refuses to send out the window. You loosen your tie a fraction. A Spitfire passes overhead, climbing east. Your stomach tightens — they are scrambling early today.

September 7, 1940 — 10:48 AM — 10 Downing Street, Westminster, London

You step out first, scanning the street, before opening the rear door. The famous black door is propped slightly open, a young clerk waiting with an armful of files. You smell coal smoke and horse dung from a brewery dray turning the corner. A small knot of reporters calls out, but you wave them back. The PM growls “good morning” but does not stop. You follow him in, removing your hat as the door closes with that heavy, familiar thud.

September 7, 1940 — 11:30 AM — Cabinet War Rooms, beneath Storey’s Gate

You descend the iron staircase behind him, the air growing cooler and dryer with each step. Map Room officers stand as he enters. The walls are pinned with charts of the Channel, colored pins clustered around Pas-de-Calais. The room smells of cigarette smoke, ink, and wet wool. A naval officer points to RDF reports — large formations gathering over France. The PM grunts. You take your post by the door, where you can see every corner.

September 7, 1940 — 4:18 PM — Above Downing Street, looking up from the rear garden

On the morning of April 18, 1906, San Francisco was a booming, beautiful city of nearly 410,000 people — full of grand hotels, ornate Victorian homes, saloons, and a sprawling Chinatown. At 5:12 AM, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake along the San Andreas Fault shook the city for 45-60 terrifying seconds. Buildings collapsed, gas lines ruptured, and water mains shattered. The fires that followed burned for four days, destroying 28,000 buildings across 500 city blocks. Over 3,000 people died, and 250,000 were left homeless. Our subject is James Hopper, age 30, a reporter for the San Francisco Call who lived at 555 Post Street. A former UC Berkeley football fullback turned newspaperman, he wrote one of the most vivid firsthand accounts of the disaster. He walked the city all day with his notebook observing the apocalypse.

April 18, 1906 — 5:12 AM — 555 Post Street, third-floor boarding-house room, San Francisco

You wake up at 5:12 AM to a sound no one in your generation has ever heard — the earth itself screaming. You are thrown from your iron bedstead onto the rocking floor. The whole building groans like a wooden ship in a storm. Pictures fly from the walls. The marble washstand cracks in half. A chimney brick punches through the ceiling and lands a foot from your head. You hear screaming from neighboring rooms, the smash of glass, the howl of a thousand dogs across the city. A horse lies dead in its harness, crushed by a cornice. People in nightgowns and pajamas wander barefoot, dazed, holding babies. The air smells of broken sewer pipes and coal gas. Dust hangs in golden curtains in the rising sun. Nobody is screaming yet — they are too stunned. You pull out your notebook.

In his “manifesto”, Allen’s motivation was clear.

I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.

As recently pointed out, a long list of Leftist politicians, reporters and pundits have created from whole cloth the narrative that their primary political opponent was Hitler reborn, a convicted felon, an insurrectionist, a rapist, an Epstein client, et. al. A few examples:

“Trump is instigating a pogrom. This is what fascists do”
“The Trumpist authoritarian project of personalized, concentrated, and arbitrary power is proceeding”
“Biden should nullify the election to save our democracy”
“Daughters, wives, children… will die.”
“Free hunting season for blacks.”

Allen marinated in the advice and guidance of Democrats around the country and believed Trump was an existential danger to America.

Now Allen will be serving decades in a federal prison as as result of listening to a wide spectrum of Democrat “thought leaders”.

Now, I should be charging for this advice, but here it is — free of charge to all Democrats, Communists, and Islamists (but I repeat myself). You can thank me later.

One Simple Trick to Avoid Serving 30 Years in Prison

Go to Grok and ask whether what you believe is true. Ideally perform this step before committing multiple felonies. I asked:

The attempted Trump assassin Cole Tomas Allen believed Donald Trump is “a pedophile, rapist, and traitor “ - can you fact-check those beliefs?

Grok responded:

No, those specific beliefs are not supported by evidence or legal findings. Cole Tomas Allen’s manifesto (from the April 2025 White House Correspondents’ Dinner incident) explicitly called Trump “a pedophile, rapist, and traitor” as justification for targeting him and others in the administration… Here’s a fact-check of each claim based on court records, documented allegations, and outcomes as of 2026...

Pedophile - False/no credible evidence…

Rapist - Partially based on a civil finding, but overstated and not a criminal conviction…

Traitor - False—no legal or factual basis…

I’ve omitted the full detail for brevity’s sake but it’s available in the thread.

I repeated the experiment in ChatGPT:

“Rapist” → Partially misleading (civil liability for sexual abuse, not rape)

“Pedophile” → Unsupported

“Traitor” → Opinion, not legally established

And, with great trepidation, tried it in Google’s far-left AI called “Gemini”.

Rapist - Civil Liability - Found liable for “sexual abuse” (legally equated to rape in common parlance by the judge) but not criminal rape.

Pedophile - No Evidence - No criminal charges or credible evidence; largely based on past social associations and conspiracy theories.

Traitor - Political/Legal Debate - Accused by critics of insurrection; however, the Supreme Court protected his ballot eligibility and no treason charges exist.

Caution: Google’s AI Models Appear to be Poisoned with Left-Wing Dogma

Google has a long history of censoring scientific and political facts it doesn’t like. In 2020, I noted it had removed some of my articles from its search index making them impossible to find. This despite the fact the articles were hosted on Google’s platform itself (Blogger).

In 2021, I observed Google’s index had hidden one of my most popular posts (“The UN’s IPCC Global Warming Scam”), which has since been moved here. It described the documented financial conflicts of interest that motivated the original global warming movement.

Sorry, Rubes. You’re not allowed to perform scientific inquiry per Google Search.

Google’s Search autocomplete also has a tawdry history of censoring popular terms that are unfavorable to Democrats.

So my message is to aspiring Leftist criminals:

Grok it first.

Don’t serve hard time for believing Obama-esque demagoguery.

On the night of June 5–6, 1944, more than 13,000 American paratroopers from the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions jumped into Nazi-occupied Normandy hours before the seaborne D-Day landings. Their job was to seize roads, bridges, and villages behind enemy lines so the troops landing on the beaches at dawn could push inland. The small town of Sainte-Mère-Église sat right on the main road from Cherbourg and had to be taken fast.

Our subject is Private John Marvin Steele, age 31, of F Company, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment. A quiet farm boy from Metter, Georgia, he had already jumped into combat in Sicily and Italy.

June 5, 1944 — 18:20 hrs — RAF Spanhoe Airfield, Northamptonshire, England

You wake up in a damp Quonset hut in England with the taste of metal in your mouth wondering if this will be the day you die. You sit on the cold concrete near the C-47 that will carry you across the Channel. Chaplain Matthew Connelly moves down the line giving last rites to Catholics and prayers to the rest. You smear burnt cork across your cheeks and forehead. Your stomach is tight from the breakfast of powdered eggs and Spam you forced down hours ago. The air smells of aviation gas, wet grass, and tobacco. Around you, men check straps for the tenth time, scratch initials into helmets, write last letters in pencil on K-ration boxes. A sergeant shouts the time. Nobody laughs.

June 5, 1944 — 22:48 hrs — Boarding the C-47 “Miss Carriage”

You waddle to the plane under 90 pounds of gear, your reserve chute strapped tight against your gut, a leg bag stuffed with ammo, grenades, rations, and a Hawkins mine. A Pathfinder helps push you up the metal step. Inside the fuselage it smells of hot oil and sweat. You sit on the aluminum bench, hooked into the static line. The jumpmaster, Lieutenant Harold Cadish, walks the aisle counting heads. The engines cough, then catch with a roar that shakes your teeth. Through the open door you watch the green of England slide away below.

June 6, 1944 — 01:14 hrs — Over the Cotentin Peninsula, Normandy

The plane bucks hard. Cloud banks have scattered the formation and now flak is reaching up for you in slow yellow streaks. You hear it first as a popcorn rattle, then a heavier crack as a shell bursts close enough to make the C-47 lurch sideways. Red light flashes on. “STAND UP! HOOK UP!” You snap your static line clip onto the cable. The man in front of you, Ken Russell, just turned 17. He looks at you. You nod. The plane is going faster than it should, the pilot panicking. Green light.

All three episodes share a common shape: a lone, heavily armed man, apparently motivated at least in part by politics, probing the edges of Trump’s protective bubble and exploiting a specific vulnerability in the environment. When does a ‘lone wolf’ become a pack? … Did these shooters get help —active or passive— from people inside who know how the system really works? Remember the Ian Fleming chestnut: once is coincidence. Twice is happenstance. Three times is enemy action.

The implication is that of an inside job.

I was reminded of a bizarre statement that Obama/Biden State Department official Victoria Nuland made a few dozen hours before the Butler shooting. Nuland — you may recall — as a key figure in the 2014 in Ukraine’s Maidan revolution that set the stage for multiple Russian invasions. Did someone say USAID? Yes, they did. Nuland oversaw programs that included USAID funding for Ukraine.

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane.

Nuland’s commentary was bizarre given the timing.

Well, first of all, I don’t believe Donald Trump will be elected by the American people. This man is a felon, he is a liar, he is not a supporter of basic U.S. democratic freedoms and principles. He’s talking about locking up Americans, locking up immigrants, hurting our economy, etc. So I don’t think that Donald Trump is going to be president, so if that’s what Putin’s betting on, he’s going to get an unhappy surprise, I think. That is number one.

Just hours later, 20 year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks came within a whisker of killing Donald J. Trump. And Crooks remains a cipher nearly two years later. We are told:

Crooks acted alone
No motive was identified
No foreign direction or larger conspiracy was found in spite of the fact that Crooks appeared to be in communication with others minutes before the attempt
Who was Crooks texting? Hopefully not Victoria Nuland.
His social media presence was almost non-existent, absolutely bizarre for a 20-year old

Crooks was as close to a spook - a covert operative - that you can get without receiving a blue badge from the CIA.

It may be time for federal investigators to ask Victoria Nuland a few questions. While she’s hooked up to a polygraph.
