April 25, 2018: Richman’s Special Access
The revelation hit like a bombshell: Daniel Richman, the Columbia Law Professor to whom Comey had leaked his memos, had special access to FBI databases.
Richman wasn’t just a friend and former federal prosecutor. He was a “Special Government Employee” (SGE) of the FBI, appointed by Director Comey himself, with a security clearance and badge access to FBI headquarters.
According to Fox News reporting, Richman was assigned to “special projects” by Comey. His portfolio included “the use of encrypted communications by terror suspects.”
Which meant he had access to the FBI’s counterintelligence databases. The same FISA-702 queries said to have been exploited for political leverage by contractors under the prior regime. The same systems that Admiral Mike Rogers had shut down access to in April 2016.
